I find close-up portraits to be one of the most difficult type of 3D images to pull off convincingly. Not just in Vue but in all rendering programs. Here is a recent attempt where I tried to do a fairly close-up portrait of my character Jazz. I imported the posed OBJ from DAZ Studio and then redid all materials and set up the lighting in Vue 8 Infinite. Probably not spectacular, but overall I was pretty happy with the result and decided to show here anyway.
I agree with you that portraits are most difficult; like most things, when you are simplifying a piece or focusing on one small part of it, the possibility of screwing up royally increases exponentially. Here, however, you have pulled it off quite nicely; the character feels very alive and natural. The textures are all tops and the facial expression makes the piece seem like a spur of the moment photograph--so kudos for that great accomplishment! The background is very nice for the piece, simple but well done. Because it is so flat, I get the feeling that this is one of those photographs that usually gets deleted or filed away never to be seen again--the kind that wasn't the 'perfect' portrait the photographer was going for, but is still a wonderful piece of art by its own right.
Great work. Jazz would be a great model for my style of photography. Absolutely gorgeous. I like your way beeing respectful to your character, as you covered her decollete with her hair.
More than often, characters imported from Poser or DAZ Studio into Vue have a matte and articial aspect. So your reworking of the textures are really great!
Thank you! Hmm, looking at the image now I think you might be right. I didn't really notice it until I read your comment. Must go back to the scene file and investigate...
Excellent work!
